Danielle Laidley, partner Donna Leckie stun on Brownlow Medal red carpet

AFL legend Danielle Laidley has stepped out on the Brownlow Medal red carpet for the first time in years, stunning guests in a white gown.

Danielle Laidley has made her first appearance on the Brownlow Medal red carpet, stunning guests in a white gown, alongside partner Donna Leckie.

The biggest night of the AFL calendar has begun with stars of the game and top medal contenders making their way down the famous red carpet.

Among guests walking the carpet on Sunday night was former West Coast and North Melbourne player and coach, Dani Laidley.

Laidley turned heads in a white off-the-shoulder Marquise Atelier gown, styled by fashion icon Lana Wilkinson as she appeared hand-in-hand with Ms Leckie, also wowing in white.

Laidley thanked Wilkinson for putting together her look.

“It’s been wonderful,” she told Channel 7.

“Lana Wilkinson and her team, Megan who put all our gowns together, Jade with the make-up.

“It’s just been phenomenal and I just said when we came down the stairs that, you know, we are so grateful and overwhelmed for what you’ve done for us.

“To get here tonight and go and enjoy the night of nights we haven’t had for quite a few years.”

Laidley said her pick to win the Brownlow is Fremantle’s Andrew Brayshaw.

“Particularly the first two-thirds of his season was outstanding,” she said.

“And I have to say I’m very attached to the Brayshaws, and so I would love for him to get over the line. Hopefully he can hang on in the last few games to win tonight. I think that’ll be just a wonderful finish to the night.”

The former coach has said recently she is open to continuing her Aussie Rules coaching journey in the future, but said she does not anticipate this will be at the highest level.

The 55-year old, formerly known to as Dean Laidley, recently shared in a News Corp exclusive, insight into her journey to becoming a proud, contented transgender woman, happily living with her partner and sharing her story.

In an interview with News Corp, the former AFL great also opened up about her attempt at suicide – involving drugs and self-asphyxiation, and her battle with gender dysphoria.

Laidley also recently released an autobiography, titled Don’t Look Away: A Memoir of Identity & Acceptance.
