‘Cruel’ Wiggles video causes AFL storm after Brisbane Lions thriller

If watching the Lions’ euphoric celebrations wasn’t enough for the Giants on Saturday night, the Wiggles have now joined in.

Behind The Moment: Joe Daniher's matchwinning goal

If watching the Lions’ euphoric celebrations wasn’t enough for the Giants on Saturday night, the Wiggles have now joined in.

There were epic scenes after the game as Brisbane players celebrated one of the greatest finals victories in recent memories, coming back from 44-points down to win a thriller.

Purple Wiggle's bizarre Brisbane Lions celebration

The Wiggles were also ready to celebrate the win with Blue Wiggle Anthony Field and Purple Wiggle Lachie Gillespie having a pre-prepared video to show their support for the Queensland club.

The video, shared by the Brisbane Lions and on Lachie’s personal Instagram account, shows the skivvy-clad singer belting out part of the team’s song before Field sticks the boot into the Giants by rejecting an “orange” as they sang their iconic hit “fruit salad”.

Speaking directly to a camera from behind a kitchen bench, the video starts with Gillespie showing off his team’s maroon, blue and gold colours.

“The Lions won. Let’s make a Brisbane Lions Fruit Salad,” he says while starting a jig.

“We are the pride of Brisbane town, we wear maroon, blue and gold.

“The first step, a maroon apple. The second step, blue blueberries. The third step, a gold kiwi.

“All for one and one for all.”

The next scene shows Field saying: “Hey Lachy, would you like a Giants orange for the fruit salad?

“Yes? No.”

Red Wiggle Simon also joins the final dances while dressed as a referee.

Gillespie finishes the song by belting out: “All for one and one for all. Go the Lions.”

The video quickly spread across the internet with 25,000 views on Saturday night.

The video won plenty of praise across social media in the aftermath of the victory, but comments made by fans on Twitter and Instagram also poked fun at the cheeky clip.

“This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen,” one Twitter user wrote.

Another commented: “This is awful. I love it.”

Others described it as “cringe” and “cruel”.

The comments were much more positive on Instagram, where one user commented: “I thought this day couldn’t get any better.”

Another posted: “You literally slayed, love you.”

While the video has got plenty of attention, nothing can overshadow the wild scenes on the field at Engie Stadium.

The Giants led for almost the entire match, before Joe Daniher and the Lions roared home to win 15.15 (105) to 15.10 (100).

Fourth quarter hero Daniher was struggling for answers when he spoke after the match.

“It was fantastic,” he said. “We hung in there, we looked gone a couple of times, and we got there.”

It’s more heartbreak for the Giants, who have still reached just the one grand final and failed to win a flag in their history to date.

They have also thrown away big leads against the Swans and Lions in consecutive finals.

“They won’t recover from this for a long, long time,” David King said on Fox Footy.

“Full credit to the Lions.”

The Lions will next play Geelong in a preliminary final on Saturday night at the MCG.
