“The energy is very nervous among both set of fans,” he said.
The game is being broadcast on Channel 7 this afternoon, for those not willing to brave the masses or who missed out on a ticket.
Pre-game entertainment saw Robbie Williams perform a touching rendition of his hit song “Angels” alongside Delta Goodrem, in a touching tribute to the late Shane Warne.
The stars were dressed in hot pink, with Williams sporting a braided hairstyle.
Carlton and United Breweries have delivered an astonishing 100,000 litres to the MCG for the Grand Final.
Alongside thousands of cans and stubbies, CUB have supplied 1500 kegs straight from the Abbotsford brewery.
CUB’s Head of Classic Brands, Hayden Turner told The Shout nearly three quarters of the beer consumed at the MCG today would be Carlton Draught, followed by Great Northern Super Crisp.
As “Grand Final fever” reaches boiling point, Victoria Police are making a heavy appearance across the CBD, especially around the MCG and surrounds this afternoon and evening.
Officers on foot are supported by patrols from the Mounted Branch, Highway Patrol and the Public Order Response Team.
Extra security measures are in place, with bag checks and wanding at the gates.
Victoria Police said there would be a “strong focus on responsible service of alcohol.”
Emily Hicks, who travelled from Adelaide to see the game, said she arrived at 11:30am and got through security easily.
“The atmosphere is unbelievable,” Ms Hicks said.
“It’s super high energy, but there are massive lines for bathrooms and to get drinks.”
“There are cops everywhere. I saw them with one man outside, but I’m not sure what for,” she said.
“Robbie Williams and Delta Goodrem were amazing.”
Ms Hicks said she drove over from Adelaide, as airline tickets were a struggle to get a hold of.
Melbourne Divisional Commander, Acting Superintendent Scott Johnson said it was a fantastic time to be in Melbourne.
“Police and PSOs will be there every step of the way with a boosted presence on the public transport network and around the vicinity of the MCG.”
“The policing operation doesn’t stop when the final siren sounds – we will be there for fans heading home or onto further celebrations in the CBD, Richmond and other entertainment precincts.”
