Melbourne has vowed to work with Clayton Oliver who is home and resting after being hospitalised for a “medical episode” this week continuing a tumultuous period for the 26-year-old.

In the days after the Demons defused speculation 26-year-old Oliver could be traded, Oliver was taken to hospital in an ambulance for the unknown issue.

Amid a flurry of online rumours, it’s been confirmed Oliver was discharged after “a number of tests” and he is recovering at home.

Melbourne has said it will continue to support Oliver and provide him with the treatment required.

“The Melbourne Football Club can confirm that Clayton Oliver was admitted to hospital. Clayton was transported to hospital via ambulance, following a medical episode,” the Demons said in their statement.

“The hospital completed a number of tests and Clayton has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.

“The club will continue to work with Clayton and his medical support team to ensure he receives all the necessary treatment.

“We ask that (the) media respect Clayton’s privacy at this time.”

After confirming Melbourne would not be trading him, club chief executive Gary Pert said the Demons would continue to support Oliver as the four-time best-and-fairest winner, and 2021 premiership player, dealt with personal issues.

“The club has been aware of and supporting Clayton with his personal circumstances for some time and is committed to continuing to do so,” Pert wrote last Friday.

“While club leaders focus on the care and support Clayton needs, we also have a responsibility to uphold our strong club culture for the benefit of all our players and staff. We have a responsibility to ensure that everyone within the club is committed to meeting the expected behavioural standards of a player within an AFL high-performance environment.

“Clayton understands what is expected of him as a professional athlete as well as the standards and behaviours a Melbourne person is expected to uphold.”

Oliver’s place at the Demons was secured in a dinner with coach Simon Goodwin, football boss Alan Richardson and his manager last Thursday.

On Wednesday night, Oliver posted to his Instagram account with a series of photos from Melbourne’s best and fairest event last weekend.
