Why ex-Gold Coast, Carlton star Daniel Gorringe is coming out of retirement

Former Carlton and Gold Coast footballer Daniel Gorringe is coming out of retirement and putting his skills to the test on Grand Final Day.

Melbourne's AFL Grand Final Parade returns to the streets

Daniel Gorringe is coming out of retirement for a special occasion — to test his kicking boot.

Gorringe, former Gold Coast and Carlton footballer, last played in 2017 but will put his skills to the test in Fox Footy’s Longest Kick on the Yarra competition on Grand Final morning.

“I don’t reckon I’ve attempted to kick a footy over 50m since my last game,’’ Gorringe said.

“There was a hamstring and a calf (injury) last time I tried. But maybe once I’m out there the competitive juices will flow.”

The competition along the banks of the Yarra will be hosted by Bounce’s Jason Dunstall, Andrew Gaze and Ben Dixon.

Last year’s champion was Carlton’s Charlie Curnow with $10,000 going to the winner.

Gorringe is the first of two wild card kickers with eight current players to be announced in grand final week.

The Longest Kick is part of a big broadcast on Fox Footy, available on Kayo Sports, kicking off at 9am for the annual North Melbourne Breakfast, followed by the kick and then an all-star Fox Footy panel.
