Blues star Harry McKay has been fined by the AFL for staging contact after he took a dive in the Blues’ loss to Gold Coast on Sunday.

The star forward was charged by the AFL match review with staging graded as “excessive exaggeration”.

As it is his first offence in staging, McKay is free to play in Round 5, but will pay a $1000 fine.

The moment he went to water in the final minute of Carlton’s crushing loss to the Suns at Metricon Stadium left Western Bulldogs great Brad Johnson openly laughing during his commentary on Fox Footy.

McKay had taken a mark and was walking back to take his shot on goal when he bumped into Gold Coast ruckman Mabior Chol’s shoulder.

The 24-year-old flung his head back in a whiplash motion and fell to the grass.

A giggling Johnson said: “That was a bit over the top here from McKay”.

The jokes kept coming on Monday night with AFL 360 host Gerrard Whateley saying McKay should have been at “WrestleMania”.

“I found this hilarious,” he said.

“I’m laughing in the lounge room when that happened yesterday. So that’s excessive exaggeration, not just exaggeration.

“He should have been at WrestleMania.”

McKay is the first player to be charged with a staging offence this season.
