On the same day Hawthorn has a confirmed case in their playing ranks, an unnamed member of Carlton’s AFLW program also turned in a positive Covid test.

In a club statement, Carlton acknowledged the player was fully vaccinated and took a Rapid Antigen Test at the club’s training facility, which returned a positive result.

“The individual then immediately undertook a PCR Covid Test outside the Club, before returning home to isolate as soon as the test was completed,” a club statement read.

“The person did not enter IKON Park at any stage.

“The PCR test returned a positive result on Wednesday, with the individual now required to self-isolate for 14 days.

“One additional member of the Club’s AFLW program was deemed a close contact.

“That person has tested negative to COVID-19 however will continue to self-isolate for the required seven days.

“The Club is providing continued support to both individuals and asks that their privacy be respected.

“Every player and staff member associated with the Club’s AFLW program is fully vaccinated.”

The confirmation of Carlton’s positive Covid test comes just hours after Hawthorn’s Finn Maginness shared the same fate.

The 20-year-old was in attendance at the Hawks’ Waverley Park training facility on Monday, but was not displaying any symptoms until Tuesday morning.

Maginness is now in quarantine and all close contacts are isolating for seven days despite turning in negative Covid tests.

According to Hawthorn CEO Justin Reeves, Maginness woke up with symptoms and immediately took himself to get tested.

“I want to commend Finn for his diligence in getting a test at the first sign of symptoms, informing our club doctor and protecting his teammates and our staff. As a club we are taking every precaution to ensure the health and wellbeing of our staff and the broader community is maintained,” Reeves said in a club statement.

“Appropriate wellbeing supports have been put in place to support Finn and those who are isolating as a result of this case.

“Every staff member and player that needs to be tested is being tested, and the clear processes the club and AFL have in place has ensured that those who need to isolate are isolating.”
