Charlie Curnow has extended his lead in the Coleman medal as he booted six goals to help the Blues overcome Sydney on Friday night.

The star forward kicked five goals in the first half — the first time a Blues player has kicked five in a half since Jarrad Waite in 2013.

The only Blues player to do better this century was Brendan Fevola, who kicked six goals in a half.

The 25-year-old’s first half bag had the home fans at Marvel Stadium on their feet in the second quarter as Carlton produced 30 minutes of freakish football heading into half time.

Swans coach John Longmire eventually moved Dane Rampe onto Curnow in the second half after he proved too much for Tom McCartin to handle.

Carlton blew the Swans away with a nine goal second quarter which included a run of six straight goals.

The Blues hadn’t kicked nine goals in a quarter since 2012.

Brian Taylor said on Channel 7 Curnow was “on fire”.

“They are absolutely blowing them out of the water here at the moment,” he said.

“It is unbelievable stuff.

“Their fans can’t quite believe at the moment.”

The Swans were never able to recover.

For a brief moment early in the fourth quarter it seemed the Swans may pinch the four points when the margin was cut back to just eight points, but the Blues held on for a famous win that takes Michael Voss’ team to 8-2 for the season, entrenched in the top four.

The 15.12 (102) to 13.9 (87) win was the Blues’ fourth consecutive victory.

Garry Lyon was blown away by Curnow’s first half performance — and how helpless Sydney looked while trying to stop him.

“He’s the beacon, the rest of the Sydney Swans team know where it’s going, but they were able to get him some one-on-ones,” Garry Lyon told Fox Footy at half-time.

“Any performance is only as good as the opposition - Tom McCartin is a very, very good player.

“What you’re seeing here ... this was a stunning first half by Charlie Curnow.”
