The 2019 Brownlow Medal has been run and won by Fremantle superstar Nat Fyfe who polled 33 votes to edge out a chasing pack of stars on Monday night.

In a close Brownlow Medal count, Fyfe pulled away in the second half of the season and was announced as the winner with two rounds remaining.
He edged out Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield (27), Carlton's Patrick Cripps (26) and Lachie Neale (26).
Fyfe becomes only the 15th player in the history of the game to become a dual Brownlow Medal winner.
The humble superstar was at his brilliant best on the podium alongside host Hamish McLachlan when he was asked about winning the medal for the second time.
"A bit surreal. Incredibly humble," Fyfe said.
"I really pride myself on my preparation. I know if I prepare as well as I can that's going to put me in a position to be able to impact most games.
"I knew if I dialled down on my preparation and worked at my role as captain with our out leaders that I could get back to being the best player I possibly could be. And this is incredibly rewarding for the effort that I have put in."

Fyfe paid tribute to former Fremantle coach Ross Lyon who was let go following the club's round 22 loss to Essendon.

"I wish he (Lyon) was here tonight,” Fyfe said in his speech.

"He’s played a major part in my career. (For) eight years he was my coach. He took us to preliminaries and a grand final.

"I won a Brownlow while playing for him and now a second.

"I caught up with him last weekend, we had a couple of beers. He is not lost to the footy world.

"He will be back, I’ve got no doubt."

Fyfe averaged 29.1 disposals, 7.5 clearances and four tackles per game in a year where he was also named captain of the All-Australian side.

His unbelievable ability to poll votes has put him in rare air, with the star joining legend of the game Haydn Buntine as the only players polling more votes than games played.

Several greats of the game were quick to praise the Fremantle superstar who is the only Brownlow winner in the club's history.

Can anyone catch Nat Fyfe?

The Freo superstar just can't stop polling and he's built himself a handy six vote buffer with six rounds to go.

Cats star Patrick Dangerfield comes home with a wet sail, but the Dockers skipper looks like he's about to add a second Brownlow Medal to his trophy cabinet.

Someone has jumped the gun

Patrick Cripps wrote his name into the Brownlow Medal record books and that was enough for one excited fan to jump in and update his Wikipedia page.

"2019 AFL Brownlow Medalist Patrick Cripps is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League," the page read before it was deleted.

Liam Ryan wins Mark of the Year

With two of the three nominations for the Mark of the Year, West Coast's Liam Ryan has claimed the 2019 honour with a stunning hanger over Melbourne's ruckman Max Gawn.

The high-flying Eagle gave a thumbs up to Gawn for the ride which saw him secure the victory.

'Simply crazy': Cripps' historic start

Carlton's young superstar skipper has made a historic start to the Brownlow Medal, becoming the first player in the history of the award to poll 13 votes through the opening five rounds.

In the opening five games the Blues were 1-4, showing the results aren't affecting Cripps' ability to poll.

Good news for GWS fans

Giants skipper Phil Davis was in the wars during Saturday's thrilling preliminary final picking up three injuries throughout the game.

But the tough defender has said he's been given the all clear after scans on Monday and is raring to go for Saturday's Grand Final clash against Richmond.

Award winners throughout the season

Trying to find out just who will walk away with the Brownlow Medal around their neck is no easy feat in 2019.

Patrick Dangerfield may be the favourite on the betting markets, but the winners from the awards from the home and away season paint a wide open picture and could even see the night end in a tie.

Fans sweat on monster bets

It's one of the biggest betting nights of the AFL year and this year's Brownlow Medal has followed a similar trend.

One TAB punter is hoping to hear Patrick Dangerfield's name read out at the end of the night after throwing $50,000 behind the Geelong superstar at odds of $3 in the biggest bet taken on this year's award.

A fellow Dangerfield punter has taken an easier route, backing him in to finish in the top five with $20,000 on the line.

Another is all in on Fremantle's Nat Fyfe claiming the medal and parted with $10,000 on Monday.
