Melbourne Demons premiership hero Clayton Oliver has been locked in at the club until 2030 after signing a new seven-year extension.

Oliver, the equal favourite for the Brownlow Medal alongside Brisbane’s Lachie Neale, wasn’t off contract until the end of next season but the Demons moved early to ensure he remains at the club.

AFL.com.au reports the deal is worth approximately $7 million.

It follows in the footsteps of Christian Petracca, the reigning Norm Smith Medallist who signed for a further seven years in 2021.

Oliver has already won the club best and fairest award, two All-Australian blazers and is tipped to continue adding to his accolades.

Melbourne list manager Tim Lamb said it was great to sure up the Demons’ biggest stars for the long-term.

“As one of the best players in the competition, we are delighted that Clayton has turned his back on Free Agency and chosen to commit to the club,” he told the Demons’ website.

“It shows the faith he has in our playing group and coaches and it is a huge endorsement of the culture we have built under Simon.

“Clayton is an elite midfielder who has shown incredible consistency over his career, highlighted by the three Bluey Truscott Trophies already to his name. He is loved and respected by his teammates and coaches and is a key pillar of our ambitions to achieve sustained success.

“His ability to perform at an extremely high-level week after week is a direct reflection of the amount of work and effort he puts into his training. His training standards are reflected in his performance come game time.

“At only 24-years of age, we are excited to see what Clayton can achieve in the future and we know our members and supporters will love watching him perform in the red and blue for the rest of his career.”

The Demons are still hot favourites to win back to back flags despite three straight losses before a big victory over the Brisbane Lions last week.

Melbourne play the 13th-placed Crows this weekend in Adelaide.
