SIMON Black has paid in-form Brisbane midfielder Jack Redden a huge compliment, comparing the Lions young gun to club great Nigel Lappin.

Redden, 21, showed why he is one of the prime movers in Brisbane's 'generation next' with a brilliant best-on-ground performance in the Brisbane's stirring 10-point win over second-placed Adelaide at the Gabba on Saturday night.

Redden had 30 disposals, nine tackles, seven clearances, five inside 50 entries and four scoring assists to lead Brisbane's stunning comeback and continue his rich vein of form in 2012.

Black was highly influential himself with 25 touches of his own, including 11 disposals in the pivotal third term, but heaped praise on Redden, who he likened to former teammate Lappin.

It is a significant wrap, given Lappin was a super player in 279 games and three flags for Brisbane and considered one of the elite players of his generation.

"I'd like to think that in time Jack could essentially be as effective as Nigel Lappin," Black said.

"He's got power running like Nige used to. Nige accumulated a lot of the footy as well as having beautiful skills. He never wasted a disposal.

"If Jack can keep working hard and keep improving then who knows, he may well be a Nigel Lappin.

"He was terrific (against the Crows). He was really good last year and he's consolidated on that and become very consistent.

"He is very composed with the ball in hand now. He always kept running to turn up at contests but now he makes really good decisions and is very effective for us."

Redden said he had been "pretty quiet at the start of the year".

"I was a bit up and down, but I've been more consistent in the back half of the year playing my role for the team," he said.

Brisbane tackles Port Adelaide on Saturday before meeting the Western Bulldogs in the last game of the home-and-away season on Sunday week, raising hopes they can now finish with 10 wins for 2012 - six more than last season.

Redden said Brisbane's win over the Crows, who held the home side by 38 points at the first change, gave his team a a lot of confidence.

"It would have been easy to roll over and die but we showed great character," Redden said.

Black agreed that the victory was worth more than the four premiership points.

"A win like that makes your year because it gives the boys enormous belief," he said.

"We have talked a lot about improving, but we haven't always put those words into action. It's something we can build on."
