BRISBANE coach Michael Voss has joked that veteran Simon Black will be running like Olympic sprint king Usain Bolt when the Lions take on Carlton at Etihad Stadium tomorrow night.

But he found questions about the club's pursuit of Adelaide star Kurt Tippett no laughing matter.

Black was a shock selection as the substitute against Richmond last week due to concerns over a lingering knee injury. However, he is set to taken on the Blues from the first bounce in what is a must-win clash for Carlton if it hopes to stay in the hunt for finals.

"And he's going to move like Usain Bolt ... (but) the game is a bit longer than 200 metres,'' Voss said of Black before training at the Gabba today.

"He (Black) is going OK.The whole purpose was to lighten his load and we've done that so he should be fine.''

But Voss refused to discuss Brisbane's interest in out-of-contract Queenslander Kurt Tippett, who has put contract talks with Adelaide on hold while he recovers from a series of head knocks.

The Crows have approached Collingwood star Travis Cloke as an insurance policy should Tippett decide to head home.

Voss declined to answer questions about the Lions' pursuit of the power forward, saying it was his policy not to talk about the contract situation of players from rival clubs.

"I'm not talking about Tippett ... you can keep asking me, but I'm not going to answer it,'' he said.
