A PERFECT Saturday for Sarah ‘Tex’ Perkins this weekend is to kick a 50m torpedo across the Yarra then watch the Crows win the flag at the MCG.
Adelaide’s AFLW premiership winning full forward is taking part in the Fox Footy longest kick competition where Carlton’s Bryce Gibbs is out to defend his title.
Gibbs last year unleashed a 72.3m kick to win the $10,000 prize and while Perkins doesn’t think he will be too worried about her on Saturday morning, she will give it her best shot.
Perkins hasn’t decided if she’ll wear her footy boots or just her runners given it’s pre-season for the Crows women’s team but one thing is for certain — she’s planning to unleash a good old fashioned torp.
“I reckon my best would be close to 50m, that’s what I have to go with I reckon,” Perkins said.
“I’m going to go the barrel, if you’re going to go in a longest kick competition you’ve got to pull out a barrel.
“I have my days when I hit them pretty sweetly but some days I try and it’s a complete shank, so I’m hoping it’s a good day.”
Perkins will take her seat at the MCG to cheer on the Crows who are looking to make it an AFLW and AFL premiership double for the club in the one magnificent season.
“I guess the message (to the boys) is really just wishing them all the best and I hope they do the club proud like we know they will,” Perkins said.
“We’re all behind them 100 per cent and we can’t wait to see the outcome on the day and hopefully they get to experience what we did a few months ago.”
Other big-names testing their hamstrings in the longest kick competition include West Coast’s Josh Kennedy, Melbourne’s Jayden Hunt, Geelong’s Zach Tuohy, GWS’s Josh Kelly, Western Bulldogs’ Matt Suckling and Essendon legend Dustin Fletcher.
Carlton’s Bryce Gibbs won last year’s comp with a monster 72.3m effort.
You can catch the Longest Kick live from Lower Tce, Birrarung Marr, on Fox Footy from
from 9.30am (SA time), while you’ll also be able to stream the event on foxfooty.com.au
