IT was dubbed a shock loss when Melbourne fell to Brisbane in AFLW Round 1, but the result can now be viewed as a good form guide and Demons vice-captain Melissa Hickey wants another crack at the unbeaten Lions come March 25.

The Demons upset second-placed Adelaide in Darwin on Saturday night to keep their Grand Final hopes alive.

The Lions have secured a place in the March 25 decider and are awaiting an opponent.

BIG RESULT: STANDOUT GAME JUST THE START FOR MO

Melbourne must defeat Fremantle at Casey Fields on Saturday and then also need Collingwood to post a big win over Adelaide for the Demons to make the play-off.

“We’ve seen when we play our best footy we can beat anyone,” Hickey said.

“We’ve got a real point of difference with the way that we play … just with our ability to move the ball and our athletic runners can really expose teams on that transition.

“ … I know personally no one’s really been considering us (a flag chance). There’s still a lot of work to be done and the last round there’s still lots of games happening where different clubs can move around on the ladder so we just have to worry about winning again and hope the rest looks after itself.

“Our goal at the start of the season was to win the Grand Final and to be the premiers. That’s still what we’re aiming for, but obviously a lot still needs to happen before that.”

The Demons suffered an unexpected loss to GWS in Round 5 and it was a wakeup call ahead of Saturday’s win over the Crows.

“It’s just disappointing that GWS game, you just hope it doesn’t come back to bite you,” she said.

Melbourne flew back from Darwin on Sunday after a taxing game in stifling heat and humidity, but Hickey said her team had recovered well.

“In the game, it was like nothing else I’ve ever played in,” Hickey said.

“The first quarter, especially while it was still pretty warm, I changed all my clothes at half time and was immediately drenched again.

“It took a lot out of us, but we rotated really well.

“We’re feeling pretty good.”
