Marc Murphy’s hilarious concession, AFL players react to first AFLW game from Princes Park
BLUES fans have embraced Darcy Vescio quickly — too quickly for Marc Murphy. But he wasn’t the only AFL gun to voice his admiration for the game’s best female players.
CARLTON fans were quick to embrace new forward hero Darcy Vescio on Friday night.
And for Marc Murphy, that love came a little quicker than expected
After Vescio’s stunning start to the Blues’ AFLW clash with Collingwood at Princes Park, former Hawthorn on-baller Daniel Harford asked his Twitter followers who the favourite No. 3 at Carlton was out of Murphy and Vescio.
And the Blues’ male skipper was cheekily happy to concede defeat to the Blues’ new star goalkicker.

Vescio captured the hearts of Blues fans on Friday night, booting four goals in a clear best on ground performance.
But while her bag of goals was satisfying, the pre-game atmosphere was just as memorable.
“I think we had the sun in our eyes (during the national anthem), so we were a little bit squinty. But I was looking across at my opponent and, although your enemy is out on the field, it was a special moment for both sides. It was just incredible,” Vescio said.
Murphy wasn’t the only AFL player to voice his admiration for Vescio and some of the game’s best female players on Friday night, following Carlton’s comfortable win over Collingwood.
The game was played in front of a full house at Princes Park, with thousands turned away at the gates due to the capacity.
“We anticipated a big crowd,” Blues coach Damien Keeping said.

“It was disappointing for our members and supporters that couldn’t get in to the ground. But for those that were in, I’m sure they saw the passion of our team and the skill and excitement that women’s footy is.”
AFL game and market development boss Simon Lethlean said he was thrilled with how fans stuck around after the match.
“I’m not used to that. Usually everyone piles out and gets on with life. It was a great celebration of footy. A stunning success,” Lethlean said.
Super exciting day for footy @aflwomens. 1st quarter has been red hot. Girls are cracking in ð

“It’s got amazing momentum. We encourage fans to get to the Bulldogs game tomorrow night if they missed out tonight and Melbourne on Sunday.”
“We want to see this kind of family atmosphere and we think we’ve got the right venues to do it.”
Blues vice-captain Madeline Keryk added: “Obviously we knew a big crowd was going to come down, but I didn’t anticipate they’d be turning people away. It was great to have so many people come down and support women’s footy and so many Navy Blues.
“(The roar when we ran out) was deafening. Nothing like we’ve ever experienced before. It was something I know everyone will remember and treasure.”
Win or lose that was a great show. It was amazing seeing the fans out in force tonight. Keep up the support!
