A pair of sensational second half goals from captain Chloe Molloy have inspired the Sydney Swans to their first ever win in the AFLW against their arch rivals.

The Swans endured a horrid first season last year as they joined the league, going winless in a lopsided opening campaign with all 18 clubs represented.

But that changed on Sunday at North Sydney Oval as the Swans defeated the GWS Giants in the Sydney derby 7.9 (51) to 7.4 (46).

Trailing by as many as 25 points in the third quarter, Molloy sparked the Swans with a superb snap in the dying stages in the term.

After the Swans played on from a free kick, Molloy sold some candy to Alicia Eva, breaking the ankles of the GWS skipper as she snapped through the goal from a slight angle.

Fox Footy’s Ben Waterworth said: “Different colours — same marvellous, magical Molloy. That is the definition of a team lifting goal from your co-captain.”

Molloy did it again in the fourth quarter, snapping through another major from right in front to give the Swans the lead.

The 25-year-old played six seasons for Collingwood but made the move to Sydney in the off-season as a marquee signing for a Swans outfit desperate to improve.

Molloy’s second goal was the last of the game as the Swans held on for a memorable five-point win — their first ever in the AFLW in front of a packed crowd.

“I think it’s just the start of something big,” Molloy told Fox Footy post game.

“We just proved to everybody watching the Swans are here to compete. We were down. The Giants are a freaking great side and we got the job done in the last quarter. Welcome to the AFLW Swans!

“We hold bragging rights for the first time. First win over the Giants, who are a really good side and have been here since day one in the league.

“Respect to them, they made us earn it.

Looking at this group and what it means to them, I’m not emotional but that kind of brings a tear to the eye.”
