Collingwood to throw everything at Adelaide as it clings to AFLW flag dream

COLLINGWOOD is clinging to a slim hope of making it into the AFLW Grand Final with coach Wayne Siekman vowing his side will leave nothing in the locker room against Adelaide on Sunday.

COLLINGWOOD is clinging to the outside hope of making it into the inaugural AFLW Grand Final and has vowed to leave nothing in the locker room against Adelaide on Sunday.

For the Magpies to make the grand final, Melbourne must lose Saturday, Collingwood must beat Adelaide on Sunday — and by plenty with a lot of percentage to make up.

The more realistic outcome — regardless of the result in the Melbourne-Fremantle match — is that Collingwood has a chance to finish its season on a high as consolation for not being in the top two.

That said, Collingwood is keeping the dream alive after winning three matches so far, one less than Melbourne and Adelaide.

Coach Wayne Siekman said the Magpies hadn’t given up on the slim hope of advancing and would throw everything at the Crows, who come into the Olympic Park match on a two-week losing streak.

“We’re playing against one of the best teams in the comp and we’ve got a chance to claim a big scalp,” Siekman said. “We want to show we’ve got momentum that we can take into next year.

“Melbourne play (on Saturday) and if they win, they can eliminate us (from the grand final race).

“We can’t control that. We can only control our game. We want to beat Adelaide and show that we’re on the right track with this list and this club going forward into 2018.”
