A day after the Adelaide star gave the first demonstration of his freakish skill for the year with a set shot from deep in the pocket against Richmond, Lion Kaitlyn Ashmore went one better in Brisbane’s 34 point rout of GWS.

It was the first of two the Lions’ midfielder booted in the 6.7 (43) to 1.3 (9) victory in front of 3500 at the South Pine Sports Complex.

“I want to say it was deliberate, but I saw Sammy (Virgo) running into the square and I tried to kick it to her,’’ she said.

“It bounced the right way so I’ll take it, I’m claiming it.

“And I was secretly hoping she wouldn’t touch it, so she did the right thing.’’

And it has produced a challenger to Kate McCarthy’s five bounce goal of the year contender from last week.

Ashmore had three touches in a chain of possession that began on the wing but it was the finish, a 25m soccered attempt from tight against the boundary that broke hard at the last minute, that will surely make its way onto the end-of-season highlights reel.

“We’ve been having a joke, discussing which one was better,’’ she said.

“I honestly think hers is better, five bounces and a goal is pretty spectacular, especially because she had the ball from before the centre square.’’

It was Betts like, and the Lions will be hoping she can reproduce her form next week when they head to Adelaide for a top of the table clash with the Crows.

The Lions looked like blowing the chance for a desperately needed percentage boost to keep pace with the Crows in the opening half when they were unable to convert the majority of possession and superior field position into goals.

At half time the score 1.7 to 0.1.

But they found their range in the third quarter, with a three goal third quarter that blew GWS out of the contest.

“We have won a couple of games but they have ben by less than ten points so we knew we needed that percentage booster,’’ she said.

“We were pretty happy to get that score.’’

Once again ruck-forward Sabrina Frederick-Traub dominated. She collected 13 disposals, took six strong marks and kicked 1.1.

Midfielders Emily Bates and captain Emma Zielke were also good players while Emma Swanson with a game high 18 possessions fought a lone battle for the Giants.
