ERIN Phillips will walk down a coral — rather than red — carpet as one of the favourites when the inaugural AFLW players celebrate their equivalent of the Brownlow Medal: the W Awards.
Adelaide will be represented by Phillips, co-captain Chelsea Randall and rising star nominee Ebony Marinoff — possibly along with teammates invited by the AFL for polling well — at a gala event at The Peninsula in Melbourne on Tuesday, March 28.
The trio will be dressed by One Night Stand Boutique on Pultney St for the historic event.
The competition’s fairest and best award (the equivalent of the Brownlow) will be presented along with a leading goal-kicker award, a rising star medal and an award for the best-afield player in the grand final.
The AFL has decided to wait for the AFLW to develop before attaching names or titles to the major awards.
AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said the event was an important night on the football calender.
“The W Awards will be a culmination of what has been a truly outstanding competition,” McLachlan said. “I have said before AFLW is a revolution and the inaugural season has certainly demonstrated this.
“Women’s football at an elite level has arrived and I can’t wait to watch this competition continue to evolve.
“We deliberately chose not to name the awards — but wanted to allow the game the freedom and time to grow and create its own set of football stars and legends for the history books.”
