Adelaide Crows AFLW premiership Mark Knight poster inside The Advertiser on Wednesday
Cartoonist Mark Knight has produced a cartoon souvenir poster to celebrate the Adelaide Crows inaugural AFLW premiership. The poster is free with The Advertiser on Wednesday.
IT’S an AFL tradition which dates back more than 60 years.
But now, acclaimed cartoonist Mark Knight has broken new ground.
For the first time, Knight has produced a souvenir premiership poster featuring a female character.
The poster, inside The Advertiser tomorrow, celebrates the Adelaide Crows’ historic and inaugural AFLW grand final victory.
Knight said it was a thill to draw the first AFLW premiership poster.
“I followed the competition after being tantalised by the all-star game they played last year between Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs,” he said.
“There was some amazing athletes out there and they will only get better — players the calibre of Erin Phillips were just great.
“My 13-year-old daughter Daisy, who kicks with her two brothers Jack and Elliot, who both play, can now see a chance to play the game.”
The Crows AFLW poster is the latest version of a VFL/AFL tradition which started in 1954 when the cartoonist known as WEG (William Ellis Green) created something to commemorate Footscray’s first VFL premiership.
WEG continued the tradition until his death in 2008, after which Knight took over the reigns.
