Adelaide AFLW midfielder Monique Hollick to miss Melbourne clash because she’s getting married

ADELAIDE AFLW midfielder Monique Hollick will miss Saturday night’s clash against Melbourne because she’s got something more important to do — get married.
Hollick, who has played in three of the Crows’ five matches so far in this season, planned her wedding to fiance James Boden before the AFL announced the women’s league’s inaugural season would be in 2017.
“Most footy players organise their wedding for the off-season, but I didn’t know I was going to be playing with the Crows a year ago,” Hollick told the club’s website.
“Thankfully, the Crows have been very accommodating. I guess it’s not every day you get married and I’m very appreciative of the support.”
Hollick, the daughter of former Richmond player Greg Hollick and a former boundary umpire, will miss the Crows’ crucial clash against the Demons in Darwin to keep its premiership hopes alive.
Adelaide suffered its first loss of the season against Brisbane on Saturday night, meaning it must win its final two games to secure a spot in the decider.
Coach Bec Goddard said she’s supportive of Hollick and wishes her well on her big day.
“Mon and her fiance James are going to be lining up to do the 800m sprint down the aisle in the Barossa to get married this weekend,” she said.
“She could never have planned this would be the case, but she won’t be selected this weekend because life is more important than football.
“We wish her and James all the best.”
Last year Bulldog Stewart Crameri was married the night before the Grand Final, which would have created a major dilemma for the former Bomber had he not been serving a 12-month doping ban given Western Bulldogs finally made the decider.
In 2015 Victorian tennis player Arina Rodionova famously played an Australian Open wildcard playoff semi-final on the morning of her wedding day.
Rodionova won her match, then quickly headed off to get ready for her big day where she married Hawthorn recruit Tyrone Vickery in the afternoon. She then played in the playoff final the next day.
