THE full AFL ladder after Round 16 plus form analysis, injuries and SuperCoach. How is your club placed?
1. FREMANTLE
The Fyfe juggernaut is finally showing signs of slowing down. Pleasingly, Mayne went from being an ultra-defensive forward to getting a bit of it.
Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Mundy (133) racked up 30 possessions, nine tackles and seven inside 50s.
2. WEST COAST
At some stage this year Gaff will attract a hard tag. But for the Eagles, it’s now all about finishing top two, so beating Sydney is imperative.
Injuries: Hill (shoulder), McGovern (hamstring), Selwood (knee), Ellis (elbow). SuperCoach: Cripps (116) hit the scoreboard with 2.2.
3. HAWTHORN
Rioli is in career-best form for the Hawks, adding possessions to his magic. So is Hodge. And Smith. McEvoy’s desperation highlights the competition for spots.
Injuries: Hill (calf). SuperCoach: Rioli (117) was breathtaking with three goals, eight tackles and 20 touches.
4. SYDNEY
The Swans overused the pill by hand and foot. In an aftermath where there will plenty of blame games to play out, Tippett shapes as the main target. And rightfully so.
Injuries: Bird (calf), Tippett (hand). SuperCoach: Kennedy (105) was as prolific as ever.
5. RICHMOND
The Tigers were due for a game where they put their opposition away early, and it came in large part due to a backline that is extremely well oiled.
Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Deledio led way with 141.
6. WESTERN BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs’ hard running game, coupled with inexperience, will lead to tiredness at some stage. Plus they currently lack influential talls.
Injuries: Wallis (back), Stevens (heel). SuperCoach: Livewire Dahlhaus (143) was the only Bulldog to top the ton.
7. GWS GIANTS
Young Giant Lobb shows talent and commitment in a very raw fashion. The clash against Cats in Canberra next week is season-defining.
Injuries: Buntine (concussion). SuperCoach: Smith (170) proved devastating up forward with four goals straight, along with 27 touches.
8. ADELAIDE
The Crows kept their finals chances alive by ending those of their neighbour. And they did it with a brand of football that was very watchable.
Injuries: Talia (head). SuperCoach: Jacobs (162) again stood tall when it mattered most.
9. COLLINGWOOD
The Magpies have reached the crossroads in their season. But no blame should be directed at their defence, which was under siege all game.
Injuries: Cloke (calf). Reports: Witts for tripping. SuperCoach: Williams (137) continued his push for All-Australian selection.
10. NORTH MELBOURNE
The Roos’ win wasn’t pretty, but who cares? To make an assault on September, an in-form Brown up forward is vital.
Injuries: Mullett (hamstring), Macmillan (hamstring). Reports: Garner (melee). SuperCoach: Goldstein (221) monstered the Bombers with 56 hitouts.
11. GEELONG
When the game was up for grabs late, Kolodjashnij displayed sound defensive attributes. Motlop’s game was completed by his tackling.
Injuries: Gregson (foot). SuperCoach: Caddy (171) stepped up in the absence of skipper Selwood with 37 disposals.
12. PORT ADELAIDE
The Power ave developed a new way of going inside 50m, which involves kicking to your opponent and hoping he doesn’t mark it.
Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Boak (130) tried to get his side over the line with 11 last quarter possessions.
13. ST KILDA
The Saints actually get hurt by having too many players on their list who can’t kick on their wrong side. And some of them are their best players.
Injuries: Longer (nose). SuperCoach: Weller (128) stood out.
14. ESSENDON
Reckon the Bombers deserve medals for even being competitive. They have endured a workplace atmosphere that most of us could never imagine experiencing.
Injuries: Nil. Reports: Hibberd (melee). SuperCoach: Hurley (120) had 24 touches at 75 per cent efficiency.
15. MELBOURNE
Gawn’s emergence has provided the Demons with a physical point of difference. And now the headline “Hogan’s Heroes” can be justifiably used ad nauseam.
Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Howe (121) controlled the backline, finishing with 13 marks.
16. CARLTON
Given the Blues had just 29 players to pick from, a 42-point loss to the Dockers in Perth was respectable. Fill-in coach John Barker is doing himself plenty of favours.
Injuries: Nil. SuperCoach: Yarran (132) never stopped trying to run and create.
17. GOLD COAST
Midfield dynamo Touk Miller is another success story from St Kevin’s (De Goey, Hunter, Liberatore, Nicholls, Wallis and Scott brothers).
Injuries: Nicholls (quad). SuperCoach: Ablett (189) laid an extraordinary 17 tackles to go with his 30 possessions and three goals.
18. BRISBANE
The Lions are a group lacking in obvious motivation or care. Their ball movement is painful to watch and won’t improve until they find some forward targets.
Injuries: Hanley (knee). SuperCoach: Zorko (145) gained 508m for his side and registered 22 pressure acts.
