A former Kangaroos player was not happy with Aussie tennis star Dylan Alcott’s wisecrack after his team’s Friday humiliation.

Former North Melbourne defender Sam Durdin has ripped into Dylan Alcott on social media, after the Paralympian and media personality made a “shocking comment” about the Kangaroos’ Round 3 loss to the Western Bulldogs.

The Doggies put North to the sword on Friday in what was the side’s equal fourth-biggest loss in history.

North Melbourne were never in the game, suffering a humiliating 128 point defeat at Marvel Stadium.

Bulldogs forward Josh Bruce chalked up a career-best 10 goals, single-handedly outscoring the entire opposition.

Dylan Alcott took the opportunity to make a joke at North’s expense — one which divided punters online.

“Legit reckon I could get a kick for North Melbourne at the minute,” Alcott tweeted.

The tweet hit a sore spot for Durdin, who returned serve on Twitter after the game.

“For a sporting professional who’s so vocal about the treatment of people with disabilities this is a shocking comment,” Durdin said.

Durdin wasn’t alone in feeling Alcott crossed a line with his joke, with Twitter users calling the gold medallist out for his comments.

One pundit called Alcott’s tweet “disgraceful”, while another termed it “totally disrespectful”.

Durdin, who played 22 games for the Shinboners over four seasons, was one of 11 players to be delisted by the club at the end of the 2020 season. He is currently back in his home state of South Australia, playing for Glenelg in the SANFL.

North Melbourne head coach David Noble remained stoic following his side’s disastrous performance.

“We just need to be calm, we’re on a journey. We understand that there’s hiccups along the way and today’s a bigger one than maybe what we’ve had,” he said in his post-match press conference.

North Melbourne will look to make amends for their loss when they face Adelaide in Round 4 next Sunday.
