She captioned an Instagram post with the news: “(Fi) Yonceeee all on his mouth like liqua” with a white love heart emoji.
Brenning shared some photos of the happy moment on Instagram, showing off the ring and in some photo booth happy snaps.
The couple looked all loved up as they celebrated the engagement on the streets of Italy.
The Western Bulldogs posted on social media: “A massive congrats to the Skip and Neila on their engagement. Sending love to Italy.”
Bontempelli was congratulated by several current and ex-Bulldogs teammates including Cody Weightman, Jason Johannisen, Laith Vandermeer, Mitch Wallis and Roarke Smith.
The Herald Sun reports Brenning, who is Canadian and plays ice hockey for the Melbourne Ice, met Bontempelli while on holiday in Western Australia after the 2021 AFL Grand Final, which the Bulldogs lost to Melbourne.
Bontempelli went public with their relationship in 2022 and Brenning has been by his side at red carpet events since.
The 28-year-old is widely recognised as one of the AFL’s best players and claimed his third Leigh Matthews Trophy as the player-voted league MVP this year.
“I’ll start with where it all begins and finishes and that’s with my family, the support you get from people in your corner: my folks, three sisters and their partners, and especially my partner Neila,’’ Bontempelli said after claiming the award.
“Through all the good things and also the challenges at times, I’m so lucky to be so well supported through thick and thin and family is one thing you can always rely on no matter what. Thank you to my family, it’s a special experience to have you all here with me.”
Bontempelli was named captain of the All Australian team, being named in the team for a sixth time.
He also picked a sixth Charles Sutton Medal as the Bulldogs’ best and fairest, but was overlooked in this year’s Brownlow Medal voting.
