Reid, the most exciting prospect the AFL has seen in recent times, has previously attempted to keep his romantic life private, but has now revealed new details of his relationship with his Carlton AFLW star partner.
As first reported by The Herald Sun, the pair have shared that the fairy tale start to their romance goes back to when Reid had just started high school.
Sister to Essendon’s Xavier and North Melbourne’s Zane, Yasmin also played country footy while growing up in Foster near South Gippsland in Victoria.
She crossed paths with the West Coast midfielder while the 19-year-old, who grew up in Tongala in northern country Victoria, rose through the ranks side by side with Zane.
“We met when he was 12 and I was 13 and he and my brother have been friends ever since and so have Harley and I,” Duursma told News Corp.
“So when I moved back home from Adelaide and it was on the cards we decided to give it a go, and start talking and dating.
“Then it ended up he got drafted away to West Coast and moved over, but we thought we might give it a go and keep going.
“It’s not really that hard to be honest, they play in Melbourne quite often so I see him a lot more than I thought I would, it’s been fun.”
While preparing for their big night at the Brownlow Medal at Crown on Monday night, Reid also spoke understatedly about their backstory.
“They are a very talented family and I was lucky enough to play with Zane all throughout my juniors and knew Yas for awhile,” he said.
“My first year has had some huge opportunities come my way and I’m keen to keep getting involved and keep striving for better and it will be a good opportunity to experience my first Brownlow with Yas.”
Duursma is in the middle of a packed AFLW season since her move from Port Adelaide to the Blues, but is taking one night off to soak up the glitz and glamour of the red carpet.
It is the first time the couple have taken part in a promotional photo shoot together.
The couple first went public with their relationship in April when she uploaded a cheeky TikTok video of the couple with a “reasons to date me” filter.
The filter produced three reasons to date Reid — rich, obsessive and in your dreams.
“Lucky hes rich. and lucky theres noone better than me,” Duursma captioned the video.
Reid, the number one draft pick of the 2023 AFL Draft, is expected to get a lot richer in the immediate future.
According to reports West Coast are preparing to offer a long-term contract extension that will be worth well over $10 million.
