AFL: Adelaide Crows 12.11 (83) defeat Hawthorn 7.6 (48)

The Adelaide Crows haven’t celebrated for more than a year in the AFL, but on Tuesday night the nightmare finally came to an end.

That winning feeling.
That winning feeling.

Just when we thought 2020 couldn’t get any weirder, the Adelaide Crows have gone and won themselves a game of footy.

The victory for the Crows is their first in more than a year and the first for coach Matthew Nicks who took control at the start of 2020.

From the opening bounce the Crows made their intentions clear they weren’t mucking around and then kept the foot down as they ran away to record the 12.11 (83) to 7.6 (48) victory against a hapless Hawthorn outfit.

The last time the Crows celebrated a victory came a staggering 395 days ago and 16 games ago when they defeated the Saints in round 20, 2019.

WE DID IT.
WE DID IT.

The loss sees the Hawks sink to rock bottom in 2020 and has seen fans raise serious questions about just what the future holds for the club and coach Alastair Clarkson.

It makes it five straight losses for the once mighty Hawks following their bye as they sit 15th on the ladder with only percentage holding them above Sydney.

Eyes will focus on the nightmare for the Hawks, but on Tuesday it was all about the Crows and new coach Matthew Nicks.

The club has endured hit after hit throughout the season both on and off the field, but the fans in the crowd and the playing group revelled in the victory as Nicks joined the group for the club song with the players throwing him in the middle and dousing him in gatorade.

The midfield trio of Rory Laird and the Crouch brothers in Matt and Brad led the way through the middle of the ground with a combined 84 disposals.

Up forward the quartet of Darcy Fogarty, Chayce Jones, Harry Schoenberg and Taylor Walker all ended the contest with two goals to their names.

The Crows will look to make it two in a row when they take on the GWS Giants next Tuesday while the Hawks will hope to snap their losing-streaking on Sunday against the Saints.
