Geelong captain Joel Selwood has suffered an early hamstring injury in his team’s clash with Collingwood in Perth on Thursday night.

Selwood limped to the bench casually in the first quarter and it was only minutes later that commentators realised he was being treated by a team medical official at the back of the team’s sideline dug-out.

Selwood was then seen just a few minutes later putting his long-sleeve jumper on and having ice applied to his right hamstring.

Geelong confirmed before quarter-time Selwood would take no further part in the game.

He was able to walk onto the field and spoke to teammates during the quarter time huddle.

“Joel Selwood would be shattered,” Channel 7’s Brian Taylor said.

“The right hamstring with the eyes on it already. He will take no further part.

Selwood had surgery on the same hamstring at the end of the 2019 season — delaying the start of his pre-season training.

The Cats only last week had two more stars suffer hamstring injuries in their win over Brisbane.

Mitch Duncan and Quinton Narkle both suffered hamstring strains with both players missing the game against the Pies.

Narkle is expected to miss another three matches.
