AFL 2020: Jason Dunstall delivers all-time spray to Port star Mitch Georgiades
Jason Dunstall has been demolishing dribblers for years but saved his most savage spray for Port Adelaide youngster Mitch Georgiades.
Jonathan Brown and Mark Ricciuto knew Mitch Georgiades was in trouble as soon as he opted to try a dribble kick at an open goal in Port’s game against Hawthorn on the weekend.
Receiving a handball from teammate Brad Ebert about 15m from goal, the 18-year-old slid his shot along the ground but was left with his head in his hands after it skidded to the left of the goal.
“Oh no, there’s one for the Chief, Jason Dunstall” Brown said in commentary for Fox Footy.
“The Chief will love that,” laughed Ricciuto.
Did he what.
Dunstall has a regular bit on Fox Footy’s Bounce program where he rips into players that choose to dribble a shot at goal instead of kicking a drop punt.
But this might be his finest performance yet.
Dunstall initially pretended he was going to let Georgiades escape without a clip, saying: “I’m over it, I’m past all this.”
So Bounce colleague Bernie Vince stepped in.
“What’s his name? Georgiades. This is how I do it,” Vince said. “Listen here, Mitch. You’ve played seven games — no good ones. How about helping Charlie Dixon out.”
But the Chief couldn’t resist and interjected.
“Bern, Bern. If you’re going to do it, do it properly,” Dunstall said.
“You have to deliver it to the camera, mate. You have to look the player in the eye and say listen here Mitch, you d***head.
“If you think after playing just a handful of games, you have the right to say ‘everyone, look at me, have a look at Mitchy boy! I can do the fancy stuff! Watch me dribble it through! Woo hoo! I’m a freaking cowboy!’
“What about sparing a thought for your coach, Kenny Hinkely. He’s gone in to bat for you, and all you’ve done is pulled your dacks down and backed one out on all his best plans.
“You’re trying to win a premiership at Port Adelaide — you nearly cost them that flag! You can just piss off if that’s what you think you’re going to do!”
If you’re not familiar with the show or Dunstall’s epic rants we have to let you know they are done with his tongue planted firmly in his cheek.
But that doesn’t change how special that was. Watch it in the video player above.
