ADELAIDE veteran Scott Thompson admits he’ll approach Saturday’s semi-final as if it’ll be his last game, with his football future beyond 2016 still uncertain.

ADELAIDE veteran Scott Thompson admits he’ll approach Saturday night’s semi-final against Sydney as if it’ll be his last game, with his football future beyond this season still uncertain.

The 33-year-old has yet to sign on for next year with the Crows, who are in discussions with Thompson’s management about a new deal.

While his 2016 average tackle count of 7.1 is a career-high, Thompson’s disposal average of 24.1 this year is his lowest in 10 years, while he’s accumulating three less contested possessions per game compared to last year.

Asked if he was preparing for Saturday night’s clash against the Swans as if it would be his last, Thompson said he had been approaching games with a similar mindset for most of the season.

“This season I’ve been approaching all my games as if it’s my last, given the fact I’m out of contract at the end of the season,” Thompson told Fox Sports News.

“My management is still in talks with the club, I’m hoping either way will sort itself out in the next week or two.

Thompson has had a decorated career with the Crows and been of their on-ball brigade since 2006. However the future of the Adelaide midfield looks promising with Rory Sloane in excellent form, as well as the emergence of the Jarryd Lyons, Rory Atkins and the Crouch brothers this season.

Thompson admitted the uncertainty of what he would be doing in 2017 had been constantly on his mind over the past few months.

“It’s certainly something that’s definitely been in the back of my mind going into games not knowing where you’re situated beyond season. But I’m pretty comfortable with that,” he said.

“I’ve made it well clear that I’m keen to play on again next year, but I’m confident it’ll be sorted out in the next week or two.”
