Adelaide Crows star Taylor Walker investigated over alleged racial slur

Adelaide Crows star Taylor Walker is reportedly being investigated over an alleged racial slur as a spectator at a SANFL game.

The AFL Integrity Unit is reportedly investigating former Adelaide Crows captain Taylor Walker over an alleged racial slur at an SANFL game last month.

The 31-year-old forward was in the crowd at the game between the SANFL Crows and North Adelaide where he was allegedly overheard in at the Crows’ quarter-time huddle talking about North Adelaide’s Indigenous star Robbie Young.

The Age reported Walker made a comment to a Crows player but players and an official overheard the comments, who reported it to the Crows and then to the AFL.

“If there is a complaint under the Peek Rule relating to racial vilification strict confidentiality applies throughout that process until a confidential process is completed,” an AFL spokesman said via a statement.

The Peek Rule says: “No person subject to the Rules and Regulations shall act towards or speak to any other person in a manner, or engage in any other conduct which threatens, disparages, vilifies or insults another person (”the person vilified”) on any basis, including but not limited to, a person’s race, religion, colour, descent or national or ethnic origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity.”

The Herald Sun reported the Crows do not plan to stand down Walker over the allegations ahead of Saturday’s Showdown clash with Port Adelaide.

7 News reported that there is video footage showing Walker exchanging words with North Adelaide players but that it “remains unclear what, if anything, was said”.

Young, 26, is a former St Kilda player. He was picked 67th in the 2018 National Draft but played just three games before he was delisted by the Saints.
