‘Absolutely embarrassing’: Western Bulldogs defender Zaine Cordy shamed for Mad Monday antics
Zaine Cordy has copped a massive serve after “embarrassing” photos emerged of the Bulldogs star’s Mad Monday celebrations.
Essendon champion Matthew Lloyd has blasted Zaine Cordy after “absolutely embarrassing” photos emerged of the heavily-intoxicated Western Bulldogs defender at Mad Monday celebrations this week.
Cordy was spotted in a poor state outside Yarraville’s Railway Hotel on Monday afternoon, with teammate Tom Liberatore and Ryan Gardner helping the distressed footballer off the ground and into a taxi.

Bailey Smith, Marcus Bontempelli, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, Josh Dunkley, Mitch Wallis, Louis Butler, Aaron Naughton, Arthur Jones, Anthony Scott and Tom Liberatore were among the players who attended the event.
Speaking on Channel 9’s Footy Classified on Wednesday evening, Lloyd shamed the 25-year-old for his reckless behaviour, calling on him to “be in control” of his alcohol consumption.
“I hated this from the Mad Monday at the Western Bulldogs. This is a horrible look for any league footballer,” Lloyd declared.
“Would you ever see your captain in this state? Would you ever see (Scott) Pendlebury, Lachie Neale, all the great players? (Christian) Petracca, (Clayton) Oliver?
“That’s embarrassing. Absolutely embarrassing for a league footballer to be in that state, even at end-of-season drinks.
“Be in control. Imagine you’re a young first-year player looking at that, and he’s been in the system for nearly 10 years.”
Veteran journalist Caroline Wilson continued: “I hadn‘t seen those photos up until then.
“They’ve had some serious off-field discipline issues over the last couple of years, the Bulldogs, and that still continues to haunt them, to dog them, doesn’t it?”
After losing last year’s grand final against Melbourne, the Bulldogs finished eighth on the AFL ladder this season to scrape into the finals series.
But Luke Beveridge’s men suffered an 11.7 (73) to 8.12 (60) loss in Saturday’s elimination final against the Fremantle Dockers in Perth to end their 2022 campaign.
“We were up by 40, it’s a significant swing and it’s bloody disappointing,” Bulldogs coach Beveridge said after the 13-point defeat.
“It’s difficult to understand any sort of magnitude on that, whether it did or whether it didn’t.
“We felt at different stages, with one or two of the significant wins, that we were definitely moving beyond that.
“But all of us as individuals, when we think about what we’re capable of, we’d self reflect and say, ‘I think I can be more consistent’.
“That’s what we have to strive for next year.”
