Six reasons to love Jessica Gomes
FAMOUS friends, a jetsetting lifestyle and blue-chip contracts worth big bucks ... gee life's good for Jessica Gomes. Here's why we love the rising Aussie model.
YOU probably saw her face before you knew her name.
From bus stops to billboards, Jessica Gomes is everywhere right now.
The face of David Jones currently graces her seventh consecutive Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, and she dazzled on the red carpet at the mag's launch overnight.
Here are six reasons we love this West Australian.
You'd think it would be easy waking up and looking this good, right?
But turns out Jess has all the same hang-ups as us regular folk.
She says it was hard trying to break into modelling with a not-quite-typical Aussie face.
"It used to bother me a lot growing up," she told AskMenwhen asked about her exotic look.
"Because I grew up in Perth and it's very white there; I used to think, 'Guys don't like me because I'm Asian and Portuguese'."
"But it's what I've become successful on, my exotic look, so I'll always be appreciative of that because I know that it's different and unique."
If only the rest of us could turn our insecurities into our best features.
2. She's healthy
A cursory glance at Gomes's Instagram profile reveals she's not the type of model who fills up on tissues and Diet Coke.
Profiled this month in Australian Women Weekly Health magazine, Gomes is often spotted buying fresh produce at local farmers' markets.
And she's just as comfy in workout gear as she is in slinky dresses on the DJ's catwalk.
3. She has great taste in friends and TV shows
If you've never caught an episode of Pretty Little Liars, you're missing out on some pretty entertaining trash TV. It's like the gold standard of guilty pleasures.
You also wouldn't know Shay Mitchell - star of that show and Jessica Gomes's BFF.
When it comes to beautiful celebrity friendships we wish we could be a part of, this pair sets the standard.
4. She's big in Australia, but she's huge in South Korea
Aussies love nothing more than when one of our own becomes a big star overseas so we can rightly claim to have loved them first.
Outside her native country, Jess's star shines brightest in South Korea of all places.
She got a leg-up in car commercials a few years ago and then her career really took off with an ad for a split-screen mobile phone.
Now she regularly appears on South Korean telly and claims celebrity status in that country.
"I love Asia, and I love how that it's a big part of the economy," she told Vogue Australia.
"I think it's fantastic that Australia is using more ethnic girls now, and so they should - we are a very multicultural country so I think we should embrace all beauties."
Want to be the man in Miss Gomes's life? Well you'd better know how to tickle her funny bone.
The 28-year-old stunner favours humour over good looks. Don't we all?
"Funny always does well for me. I like a guy who's funny," she told AskMen.
"I like a guy that's adventurous and hard-working and wanting to do things in life, and be proactive and healthy and positive. That's really a turn-on for me."
And turn-offs? Dickheads, basically.
"Biggest turn-off would have to be arrogance and selfishness. I really hate it when guys are selfish and arrogant - when it's all about them," she says.
6. She's damn good at her day job
Oh yeah, did we mention she's an awesome model who's respected by the fashion pack and adored by fans alike?
She succeeded Australia's biggest modelling export Miranda Kerr as the face of David Jones last March, and the future looks bright.
And she's got the rare sort of look admired by women and men equally. As well as her fashiony work for DJ's, she also landed on AskMen's list of the world's most desirable women last year.
Jess's ascension shows no sign of letting up. Watch this space.
