Raving in uniform at the Big Day Out - is this Australia's coolest cop?

A VICTORIA Police officer has caused a stir after video footage of her raving up a storm while on duty at the Melbourne Big Day Out circulated online.

In the video, the female officer can be seen dancing animatedly with other revellers in the Festival's Boiler Room during the Flemington Racecourse event last Friday. The unnamed officer is in full uniform - and has a gun in her holster, which has caused some controversy about the appropriateness and safety of her behaviour.

While some have questioned the officer's fully sick moves, the man who shot the footage, Jack Van De Ven, defended her actions to Seven News.

"She took a minute out of her day to have a dance to obviously music she enjoyed at the Big Day Out, that is entirely fine by me," he said.

"Everyone was pretty happy with it. There was a lot of discussions afterward saying, 'Gee, it was good to see that cop getting into it.' A lot of people maybe give the cops a rough time. It was a good way to brighten up their image."

It seems that the officer's bosses agree. Having viewed the footage and investigated her conduct, the Police Assocation Victoria has decided that the video is in fact a positive tool in humanising the police force and its members.

"The member in our view has taken part in a great public relations exercise," Police spokesman Bruce McKenzie told Seven News.

"Victoria Police wouldn't be able to pay for the public relations that this member has displayed at no cost to the organisation."
