Oscars 2014 best dressed: the Herald Sun’s red carpet picks from this year’s 86th Academy Awards

THE WEATHER may have been glum, but glamour still reigned supreme on the rain soaked red carpet for the 86th Annual Academy awards.

A subdued colour palette saw black and cream the standout hues of Hollywood’s biggest night while sherbet pastels and bold reds also proved popular.

Soft drapery, cap sleeves and beaded embellishment topped the trends of tinsletown’s a-listers while silhouettes were clean and structured. There was a hint of flirtation from the more daring fashionistas with sheer panelling and cut outs, but most played it safe on the most famous red carpet.
