‘Mini station’ perfect for hunting, fishing and raising young’uns
If you’ve been spending all your life dreaming of a hunter’s paradise, this Top End block with pigs to hunt, wildlife to admire and a ‘beer-drinking waterhole’ could fulfil your fantasy.
If you’ve been spending all your life dreaming of a hunter’s paradise, this Top End block could fulfil your fantasy.
The 8ha property at 1355 Leonino Rd, Darwin River, is a haven for native wildlife while also being close to local fishing and hunting spots.
It’s even got a wet season creek and a ‘beer-drinking waterhole’ at the back of the block.
Owner Ben Phillips has called the place home since 2009 and set the property up for family living.
“I built it as a bachelor hoping to be married with kids by now,” he said.
“It’s prepared for the new family to style it, make it perfect for them and turn it into their forever home.”
Mr Phillips said the property was set in a “unique landscape” with a ridge running behind, and rainforest pockets, hidden springs and loads of wildlife nearby.
“The crab season is coming on now. The cherabin come in the wet season, the barra follow them, then the magpie geese and the mangoes,” he said.
“I set up trail cameras and had buff walk through, as well as dingoes and feral pigs.
“I get nearly every type bird in the NT, from brolgas to finches.
“Magpie geese and whistling ducks do land on my dam, too, but I don’t hunt them on my property.”
Mr Phillips said he’s caught pigs on the block and can easily head out to nearby crown land hunting reserves.
“There’s also culverts within 1km of the house where you can catch barra during the wet,” he said.
Described as a “mini station” by selling agents Jad Damen and Daniel Harris, of Real Estate Central, the property has two dwellings, a camp ground and a dam.
The main house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and an open plan living, dining and kitchen area upstairs, opening to a big deck with views over the property.
Downstairs there are two more bedrooms, both with bathroom access, a living area with kitchenette and laundry, and extra parking and entertaining spaces.
The second dwelling has a workshop with mezzanine, office space, bedrooms, bathroom and kitchenette.
The camp ground has an ablution block and outdoor entertaining area and there is a moat-style dam on the property in addition to the wet-season creek and waterhole.
“The property’s an animal lover’s paradise,” Mr Phillips said.
“You have everything you need to nurture, breed and grow.
“There’s plenty of room for horses and stables, and you can turn the infrastructure into facilities to suit different needs.
“It would also be perfect for a tradesman working from home.”
Mr Phillips said while the property was far enough away from suburbia to be peaceful and quiet, it was still close to all the necessities, including pubs and shops.
“People think they need a spare tyre and swag to come visit me but it’s not far out at all,” he said.
“You’re right in the thick of Mother Nature but you’re only 25 minutes from a Woolworths.
“From my place you can also head straight to Batchelor on the back roads and explore all the way to Finniss River.
“Litchfield is on the doorstep and Berry Springs is just down the road.”
The property at 1355 Leonino Rd, Darwin River, is for sale for offers in the mid-$800,000s.
