Mine worker Daniel Train snaps eagles fighting over snake outside Jabiru
Two wedge-tailed eagles have been caught on camera locked in battle over a snake in the skies outside Jabiru in the NT.
Two of the Northern Territory’s wildlife top guns have been caught on camera locked in an epic dogfight in the skies over Jabiru.
Mine worker Daniel Train managed to snap the shutter just as the two wedge-tailed eagles wrestled over a snake as he headed to work outside the Top End mining town earlier this month.
“I was on my way out to Jabiru and was actually parked on the side of the road having some lunch and that’s when I seen a couple of eagles up in the tree trying to get a snake out of the tree,” he said.
“Then all of a sudden one of them got the snake and went to take off and another one come along and they started fighting over it.”
But Mr Train said all the sound and fury ultimately signified nothing after each of the birds eventually abandoned their prey on the side of the road.
“They actually dropped the snake to be honest with you, so the actual snake was actually dead on the side of the road,” he said.

“They were both fighting over it, I actually heard them squawking and everything as well.”
Mr Train said while he’d had some other interesting encounters with wildlife in the remote NT, he’d never seen anything quite like this.
“Maybe a couple of dingoes (fighting) and that’s about it,” he said.
