Swimming hole evacuated due to fire at Berry Springs
Swimmers at Berry Springs are being told to evacuate due to a bushfire threatening the area.
Emergency services issued a Watch and Act alert at 3.30pm, warning of an active fire spreading on one or more fronts at Cox Peninsula Rd behind the Berry Springs Nature Reserve.
“Strong winds are pushing the fire on multiple fronts. Please leave the area immediately,” the warning said.
The warning said conditions were changing and there was a heightened level of threat, with the bushfire burning under very high to extreme weather conditions.
The Bureau of Meteorology on Saturday issued a heatwave warning for the Daly region.
Smoke from the fire could affect visibility, and fire crews may be working close to the roadside.
Drivers in the area are urged to slow down, turn on headlights and drive safely for the conditions.
The fire was expected to continue until 5pm.
A swimmer in the area who was among the evacuees said it was busy before being told to leave.
