New details after death of TV star Erin Jayne Plummer’s husband
New details have emerged after the tragic death of a husband whose well-known wife died in similar circumstances just two years ago.
An inquest into the death of former TV host Erin Jayne Plummer was dispensed with this year, a few months before her widow was found dead on a Sydney beach.
The body of Alan Plummer, 49, was discovered on Freshwater Beach last weekend after he failed to meet a friend as planned.
His late wife, 42, died in May 2022 with her body also located at a beach in Manly, having taken her own life.
Ms Plummer was a well-known advertorial host who appeared on programs including Studio 10, Today Extra, Totally Active TV, The Morning Show and Channel 10 Sport for the Nutri-Grain Ironman Series.
Earlier this year a coronial inquest into the death of Ms Plummer was dispensed with, according to court records. Her family were notified of the decision in May.
Under the Coroner’s Act, a coroner ordinarily dispenses with an inquest – meaning it will not be held – when “the identity of the person and the date, place, cause and manner of death are sufficiently disclosed on the evidence”.
The relevant section goes on to state this action is usually taken when “there is no particular issue of public health or safety to address, there are no suspicious circumstances, and no compelling request for an inquest has been made”.

It comes as the Daily Mail reports Ms Plummer had confided in friends that she was considering leaving her husband in the lead-up to her death.
The Mail reports detectives had probed whether Mr Plummer played any role in her passing, but quickly ruled out foul play. Her death was not considered to be suspicious.
Friends of Ms Plummer were disappointed the inquest did not proceed to shed light on the issues that led to her mental decline, according to the Mail.
The tragic deaths of Mr and Ms Plummer two years apart leaves their three children – aged 11, 15 and 18 – orphaned.
Reports claim that police informed the oldest of the three girls – Elani – her father was missing after he failed to turn up to a 6.30am paddling session on Sunday.
His body was found just hours later.
Elani Plummer, who has just finished the HSC, had been out on Saturday night before being told.
One friend left a note accompanied by a love heart emoji on the 18-year-old’s TikTok, writing: “Thinking of you girl ️.”
The teenager last year organised a fundraiser for suicide prevention through her high school dedicated to the memory of her mother.
A NSW Police spokesperson said a report would be prepared for the coroner following the death of Mr Plummer.
