Accused faces court for Melbourne killing
The man accused of murdering Natalina Angok, whose body was found slumped in a laneway in Melbourne’s Chinatown, has faced court.
A man has faced court accused of murdering a woman whose body was found in Melbourne’s Chinatown.
Christopher Bell, 32, is charged with killing 32-year-old Geelong woman Natalina Angok, whose body was found early Wednesday at the corner of a dead-end laneway.
Bell, the victim’s boyfriend, sat in the dock of Melbourne Magistrates Court yesterday with a lowered head as his lawyer Steven Pica said the accused had been un-medicated for a long time.
He had been released from a mental inpatient facility “only a week ago”, after staying for a week, the court was told.
Magistrate Cathy Lamble said he was a “diagnosed schizophrenic” who needed to take the antipsychotic drug Seroquel.
“His mental health needs should be assessed as soon as possible,” she said.
He was remanded to appear in the same court today for a filing hearing.
Police are yet to release the results of an overnight autopsy on the woman.
She was found by a tradesman at the intersection of Little Bourke St and Celestial Ave just after 6.30am Wednesday.
Detectives quickly declared the aspiring dental nurse’s death suspicious after a passer-by found her lifeless.
Detectives arrested the man after viewing CCTV footage of the area.
Victoria Police said the woman’s body was found slumped against the wall. Paramedics attended the scene but were unable to revive the woman. It is now believed she was dead at the time of her discovery.
A source said the woman had “no obvious signs of injury” according to the Herald Sun.
