Kerri-Anne Kennerley has never won a Logie

AUSTRALIA, we need to talk. There’s a certain doyenne of Australian television who has been around for decades but has never won a Logie. That needs to change.

Who will win big at the 2014 Logies?

AUSTRALIA, we need to talk.

You may need to take a seat for this, because what you’re about to learn will shock you.

Kerri-Anne Kennerley — the doyenne of Australian television, the fabulous dresser, great singer, talented dancer and well known party animal — has never won a Logie.

That’s right, despite gracing our screens for 47 years, the people at TV Week have never seen fit to honour the eternally youthful queen of daytime TV.

Think about that. Last year Joel Madden, the 37-year-old lead singer from some rubbish American punk band won the Logie for Most Popular Male New Talent, just for sitting on a chair that spins around (Studio 10’s Ita Buttrose is a shoo-in for Best New Talent this year).

Kerri-Anne is the great survivor of Australian television. Kicking off her career as a cabaret dancer in Brisbane, KAK danced for five years in New York before returning to Australia and starring in teen soap The Restless Years.

She became a national star with her role as host of Good Morning Australia, helming the show for 11 years — an eternity for a woman in television (just ask Melissa Doyle and Chris Bath).

GMA was Australia’s first breakfast television show — leading the way for Sunrise, Wake Up, Today and ABC News Breakfast today.

Kerri-Anne earned three Gold Logie nominations for her work as the host of Midday in the late 90s, but disgracefully never took home the top gong.

At Midday, KAK provided us with some classic moments in Australian television.

One of the most criminally-underrated segments in Australian television history is Kerri-Anne’s fantastic interview with a very tired and emotional John Stamos in 2002.

And who could forget the time she taught then-Treasurer Peter Costello the Macarena, or when she Cha Cha’d with Kevin Rudd.

Apart from anything, Kerri-Anne Kennerley is just fabulous.

This writer once caught a long-haul flight with KAK. Like everyone, she looked a little worse for wear a few hours in. But just before landing, she popped into the bathroom for a quick refresh.

Minutes later, she emerged looking fresh as a daisy, resplendent in hot pink capri pants and a shimmery top. Not just anyone can do that after a 12-hour flight.

Later that night at a gala dinner — with very little prompting — Kerri-Anne leapt onto the stage for an a Capella version of Johnny O’Keefe’s Shout!

Needless to say she brought the house down.

These days she has once again reinvented herself.

In recent years Kerri-Anne has worked for the Seven Network as a contestant on Dancing With The Stars and occasional host of The Morning Show.

Today, you can catch her hosting Behind The Mansion Walls on Foxtel. The woman is unstoppable.

Kerri-Anne not having a Logie sitting on her mantle is a national disgrace.

It’s time Australia. It’s time to right the wrong. To correct the injustice. Let’s hope we see KAK get that much-deserved Logie when the awards kick off this Sunday night.
