Woman to spend Christmas in WA jail over alleged quarantine breaches and lying to authorities
A young woman who previously breached WA’s quarantine rules to hang out with a rapper will now spend Christmas in jail facing a raft of new charges.
A woman who was previously fined for breaching WA’s strict quarantine rules to hang out with an amateur rapper will spend Christmas behind bars as she faces a string of new charges, including allegations she lied to authorities.
Isata Jalloh, 19, and her friend Banchi Techana arrived in Perth on a flight from Adelaide in August and were ordered to quarantine at the Novotel Hotel, but they snuck out and caught a taxi to a home in Coolbellup.
Jalloh pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a direction and was fined at the time.
She was back in Perth Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with 23 counts of failing to comply with a direction and one count of giving false or misleading information.
Jalloh had been granted an exemption to enter WA to attend a funeral and arrived in Perth on December 6.
But it is now alleged she lied on her G2G Pass application.
Jalloh previously applied for bail on December 11 but her bid was rejected.
She will now spend Christmas at Bandyup Women’s Prison and will next face court on January 19.
