Western Australia has recorded 6082 new cases and eight Covid deaths in the past 24 hours as it continues to battle its Omicron wave.

There are now 231 infected people within the state’s hospitals, including six in intensive care.

However, the latest figures include six historical deaths dating back to March 16.

These include one man in his 50s, two men in their 70s and three men in their 80s.

Of the 6082 new cases, 2177 were confirmed via PCR test, the remaining 3905 were self-reported positive rapid antigen tests.

The state now hosts a mammoth 52,211 active cases.

A total of 10,246 PCR tests were conducted over the latest recording period.

WA Premier Mark McGowan said hospitalisations were still lower than expected.

Sunday’s figures mark another rise in the state’s Covid wave, with 6439 new infections on Saturday and 7822 on Friday.

However, Premier Mark McGowan said over the weekend virus-related hospitalisations were “much, much, much lower than the modelling predicted”.

“That is a good sign for Western Australia and how we are progressing through the surging cases we are going through,” he said.

Chief health officer Andy Robertson also announced exposure sites would no longer be published on the health department’s website due to mass community spread.

“The Department of Health will only notify of major outbreak venues or superspreader events in Western Australia,” he said.

“Checking in will allow the department to quickly notify people if they attended a venue that was a superspreader event.

“This decision to remove exposure sites has been made due to widespread transmission of Covid-19 throughout metropolitan and regional Western Australia and is aligned with the approach of other Australian jurisdictions.”

WA has recorded 202,669 cases since the pandemic began.

More than 95 per cent of the state’s eligible population have had at least two jabs.
