A rideshare driver has been charged after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in his car in Western Australia last month.

Police say the 37-year-old man collected a woman in her 20s after she had ordered a car in Mandurah, south of Perth, on February 28.

Sometime during the journey, around 1.15am, the driver allegedly sexually assaulted her.

He is due to front Fremantle Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with one count of unlawful and indecent assault and one count of sexual penetration without consent.

“Police have notified the relevant rideshare companies and the Department of Transport of the arrest,” Western Australia Police said in a statement.
