A West Australian man is facing extradition following investigations into two separate horrific assaults against teenage women.

On April 14, a 19-year-old woman was walking down Bourke St in Goulburn, around 195km southwest of Sydney, when she was approached by an unknown man.

The man allegedly followed her a short distance before grabbing her and throwing her to the ground.

She was allegedly punched “several times” in the face and lost consciousness, when the man sexually assaulted her.

After regaining consciousness, she ran for help and was taken to the Goulburn Police Station and later hospital for treatment for facial injuries.

One week prior to that incident, NSW Police investigated a similar occurrence.

At about 10.30pm on April 5, an 18-year-old woman was walking down Blackshaw Rd and was approached by an unknown man.

The man allegedly punched her in the face before she fell to the ground, but he continued assaulting her.

She was able to break free and ran for help.

She was later taken to hospital also for facial injuries.

Strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a home on Bradley St, Goulburn at about 8am on Sunday, where they seized a number of items for forensic examination.

After their investigations, officers from the Western Australia Police Force’s Rapid Apprehension Squad arrested a 41-year-old man at a hotel in Fremantle, WA at about 10.30pm on Sunday night.

The man was taken to the Perth Watch House to await his first court appearance.

Sex Crimes Squad detectives from NSW will travel to WA to apply for the man’s extradition.

Investigations continue – anyone with information who may be able to assist detectives is urged to contact police.
