‘Vicious attack’: WA Police announce $250k award after woman was raped at Broome bush doof

Police have announced a major reward for information after a woman was sexually assaulted at a bush doof event in what police have described as a ‘vicious attack’.

WA Police have announced a $250,000 reward for information following the rape of a woman at a bush doof two years ago.

A 31-year-old backpacker was at a bush doof event at Cable Beach in Broome on May 29 when she was approached by an unknown man after she left the crowd to venture into nearby sand dunes between 4.30am and 5am.

The man then struck her in the head multiple times and sexually assaulted her.

The woman suffered serious facial injuries following the assault.

Special Crime Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Fowler said the woman lives with the “aftermath of the incident every day”.

“This was a random and vicious attack on a young woman, and she continues to live with the aftermath cious of the incident every day,” Sergeant Fowler said.

“Someone in the community knows something. This amount of money has the potential to change someone’s life, and at the same time, help police and the victim get some much-needed answers.”

Officers hope the reward will encourage someone to speak up.

The man is described as being dark skinned with a slim build.

He is reportedly between 170 to 177 cm tall.

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward as the investigation remains ongoing.
