Two men escaped from a 21m boat engulfed in flames off Cottesloe Beach
Emergency services rushed out to a huge 21m boat that erupted in flames about 1km off Perth’s iconic Cottesloe beach on Monday.
Two people had a lucky escape from a huge boat fire off one of Western Australia’s most iconic beaches.
Emergency services received reports a large 21m boat was on fire about 1km off the cost of Cottesloe about 8.25am on Monday.
The Westpac Life Saving Helicopter was first on the scene and found the vessel fully engulfed in flames.
A Surf Life Saving WA spokesman said the helicopter crew were able to direct water police to the survivors who were in a dinghy.
A WA Police spokesman said the fire started in the boat’s engine bay, and the two men who escaped from the burning vessel were found safe in their dinghy.
“The two occupants were escorted back to shore,” a SLSWA spokesman said.
A Fremantle Port Authority response vessel went out to the burning boat and extinguished the flames with water cannons.
