A man and a woman have died after a shooting at a home in a quiet Perth neighbourhood.

The family who live at the address have been described as “normal, lovely, professional people”.

A major police operation is now underway after the double shooting on Berkeley Crescent in Floreat, an affluent suburb 8km west of the CBD, on Friday at around 4.30pm (6.30pm AEST).

It is thought a mother lives at the home with her grown up daughters. It’s understood all those involved knew each other.

Police rushed to the address after reports of a gunman.

When they arrived at the address they found two people had been fatally injured.

A third person was taken to Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition.

‘Bang, bang, bang’

“A large number of police resources are in attendance at the scene,” police said in a statement.

“The incident is contained and there is no ongoing threats to the public.

“There will be no further information available tonight.”

Multiple ambulance crews also rushed to the scene.

One neighbour said a mother and her two grown up daughters lived at the address.

They were “just normal, lovely professional people,” a resident told the West Australian.

Another neighbour, called David, said his daughter was in the back garden when she heard gunshots.

“She ran inside and locked the doors and waited until we got home. She said she just knew they were gunshots,” he said.

“People in this area are really nice and friendly,” David added.

Talking toABC News, a resident said he was bringing his children back from a sporting event when he heard “bang, bang, bang,” which he initially put down to sheet metal being worked on.

There was then a break and further shots fired.

Speaking to 9 News, Archer Beattie said: “I heard tyres screeching, driving, lots of sirens, and then the occasional crack”.

The street remains closed.

Police are expected to remain at the scene all night.
