Cleo Smith’s alleged abductor Terence Kelly to be moved to Perth jail to continue remand on Friday

Cleo Smith’s alleged abductor, Terence Kelly, will be transported from a padded cell where he is being held on remand to a Perth prison later today.

Cleo Smith’s alleged abductor, Terence Kelly, will be moved to a Perth prison later today, where he will continue to be held on remand.

The 36-year-old briefly faced Carnarvon Magistrates Court on Thursday, and it is understood he is currently being held in a padded police cell in Carnarvon after multiple incidents of self harm.

Perth Now reports he will be transported to a Perth jail today, although it is not yet known whether the trip will be made by road or air.

It comes shortly after dashcam footage which captured the moment Cleo Smith’s alleged abductor was finally captured by police emerged.

Terence Darrell Kelly was arrested by WA police late on Tuesday night over the alleged abduction of four-year-old Cleo Smith, who disappeared from her family’s tent during a camping trip at the Blowholes campsite on October 16.

Kelly was stopped in a car driving along Robinson Street in Carnarvon at around 11.24pm.

Around an hour later, police rescued Cleo from a locked house located just 4km from the scene of the dramatic arrest.

The arrest was captured on a taxi dashcam and on CCTV footage obtained by 7 NEWS, and stunned witnesses described the moment to the network.

“It was like a high speed chase first, there was one car and then police cars,” Deane Mitchell told 7 NEWS.

“(I thought) something’s going on, that’s not right.”

Another, unnamed witness said police had been “chasing” the car before the arrest.

“The cops were chasing that car initially and they were all surrounding that car on the side of the kerb and we saw one of the detectives on top of the guy, pinning him down,” the witness said.

7 NEWS reported the 36-year-old was not alone at the time, with female relatives driving with him before the arrest. It is not suggested that Kelly’s relatives have been involved in any wrongdoing.

Terence Darrell Kelly was taken into custody and questioned before police released a statement on Thursday night, announcing he had been charged with “various offences” including one count of forcibly taking a child aged under 16.

“Given this matter is now before the court, police are unable to make any further comment on the charges at this stage,” police said at the time.

Kelly briefly faced Carnarvon Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody for four weeks.

According to The Australian, Kelly made several outbursts during the late-afternoon hearing including, “I’m coming for you.”

He is said to have asked the magistrate “What the f**k are the media doing here?”, to which the magistrate replied, “It’s an open court.”

Police previously told the media Kelly had allegedly self-harmed twice and had been taken to hospital for treatment, with WA Deputy Police Commissioner Col Blanch confirming the hospital visits to Sunrise earlier this week.

“The important thing for police, if we’re going to interview someone about offences as serious as this … we will need them in a condition where they have had a rest, they’re in a good mental state, they’ve been fed,” he told the program.

“So, we’ve got to make sure we give them the best opportunity to answer questions and that’s to ensure that the court process is validated if we get to that point.”
