Shock moment woman dragged on road as teen allegedly steals car with kid inside in Kalgoorlie
Shocking footage has captured the moment a woman was dragged along the road after a teen allegedly stole her car with a child still inside.
Police have charged a teen following a car being stolen with a child inside in country Western Australia.
The incident happened on Wednesday and police released footage of the incident on Thursday while the alleged offender was still at large.
The teenager was initially described as a “man”, however, police have charged a 15-year-old boy with a string of offences.
In a statement on Friday, police said the 15-year-old would face 11 charges in court on Friday.
Police will allege the teen committed deprivation of liberty in circumstances of aggravation, aggravated robbery, steals motor vehicle, unlawful damage and further driving offences.
The 15-year-old is scheduled to appear in the Kalgoorlie Children’s Court.
The incident happened in the city of Kalgoorlie, 600km east of Perth.
The footage shows a mum being dragged down the road clinging to her car as the boy allegedly steals it with her child still inside.
The footage shows the boy running from a building on the Great Eastern Highway in Somerville about 4pm on Wednesday.
He runs toward an orange Kia Sportage before allegedly opening the door and driving away.
A woman chases behind him and tries to open the door and stop the vehicle.
She is dragged on the road for several metres before the car hurries off in a cloud of dust.
A child was inside the vehicle at the time it was allegedly stolen, WA Police said in a statement.
“Shortly after, the child was located safe and well by police,” a WA Police spokesman said.
Police allege the same teen approached and stole a white Kia Sorento on the Great Eastern Highway in West Kalgoorlie 15 minutes earlier. It also had two children inside.
“Shortly after, the infants were located safe and well by police,” WA Police said.
Both vehicles were recovered by police.
