A woman has been charged with manslaughter over the death of her boyfriend, who was found unresponsive on the side of a road in Perth.
Merlin Smith, 33, was found unconscious near a silver Mitsubishi Outlander in Jindalee, in the city’s north, about 5.40pm on Saturday.
It is alleged he had been hit by a car and died at the scene.
The vehicle was allegedly captured by security video on Carmathen Avenue at 5.26pm, pulling up outside a home before quickly reversing back towards Marmion Ave.
A witness said he heard people screaming at each other for several minutes before the man died.
“I was watching him dying. It was just distressing,” witness Kevin Soltvedt told 7News.
“There was a lot of screaming,”
Mr Smith’s girlfriend Briana Faye Thorne, 32, was taken into custody on Saturday and charged with manslaughter.
She appeared in Joondalup Magistrates Court on Monday where she did not apply for bail.
Ms Thorne was remanded in custody until December 18.
Flowers have been left at the scene in Jindalee, and the letters “RIP” spray-painted on a wall in a tribute to Mr Smith.
The 33-year-old has been remembered as a “beloved brother” in a GoFundMe set up to help cover funeral costs.
“On Saturday the 23rd of November my beloved brother, Merlin Smith’s life was tragically cut short at the young age of 33,” the fundraiser reads.
“As his death was sudden, my family and I are reaching out for any contributions to assist towards the funeral costs so we can give him the send off that he would appreciate.”
